Legacy Projects > Putnam County Small Communities Historic Districts and Walking Brochures Project Putnam County Small Communities Historic Districts and Walking Brochures Project

The Putnam County Small Communities Historic Districts and Walking Brochures Project seeks National Register recognition of 6 small communities (Cloverdale, Roachdale, Bainbridge, Russellville, Fillmore and Putnamville). Putnam County has 4 NR listed districts and one pending approval, but all are in Greencastle. These 6 small towns are representative of a quintessential small town Hoosier lifestyle. Their businesses and homes reflect the self-reliance and dedication of residents to their community over the breadth of time. HD recognition and Walking Brochures will greatly enhance local knowledge and pride; enhance the opportunity for these communities and the County to market these towns to both tourists and prospective residents and open funding avenues not now available. A similar approach in Greencastle with HD’s and Walking Brochures was very positively received by both residents and visitors.
