The Whitley County Civil War book is a compilation of government documents, stories, obituaries, biographical sketches, interviews, diaries and other informative writings on any Civil War veteran of Whitley County. This book is over 575 pages of information and entertainment pertaining to Whitley County’s citizen’s participation in the Civil War. It highlights the importance of Indiana in the history of our nation and the importance of her citizens in small town Indiana.

What do you consider the key accomplishment of your Legacy Project?

  • This book brought together information on the Civil War veterans from this county and
    made it available, for the first time, to anyone who wanted more Civil War information.

How/where are you preserving information and artifacts related to your Legacy Project?

  • The Whitley County Historical Museum houses a copy of the book as an artifact and
    makes them available for purchase to the public.
