Indiana Bicentennial Celebration 2016

Amber Alert
Amber Alert - TEST

Legacy Projects > Bisontennial Bisontennial

The purpose of this Bisontennial project is to engage our youth in the upcoming bicentennial. A minimum of fifteen concrete statues of buffalo will be purchased. This animal was chosen because it is featured on Indiana’s state seal.  Through resources at Manchester Community Schools and Manchester University, we will access young artists to create one-of-a-kind bison masterpieces to coincide with themes both related to local history and to industry in the area.

Funding will be obtained from local industries, philanthropic organizations and businesses to sponsor a bison.

Each year the art department in our community school has their 8th grade artists create a community art project. The University also requires a number of hours being spent on community service for every graduate.  Students and staff within their art department have been invited to participate as a community service project.

The local Kiwanis and Lion’s Clubs will preserve the statues with weather resistant coating.  Once completed the statues will be placed along our main thoroughfare and be on display through 2016.
