Legacy Projects > Ranger Lore Project – State Parks & Reservoirs Partnership with Traditional Arts Indiana Ranger Lore Project – State Parks & Reservoirs Partnership with Traditional Arts Indiana

This program will help citizens of Indiana appreciate that their state park system was founded during their state’s Centennial celebration in 1916. Furthermore, it will help to portray how the park system, conceived by Col. Richard Lieber, has evolved through the past 100 years to become one of the country’s finest state park systems with a strong heritage interpretation program.

Park employees who have been with the division for over 30 or 40 years play a significant role in portraying how both the division has changed and how the public has changed through the years. The “Ranger Lore” interviews will document this important time in history, and will be permanently archived in the Library of Congress for historical, common interest, and literary use.
