Legacy Projects > National Watermelon Drop National Watermelon Drop

The National Watermelon Drop is held on the grounds of the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park in downtown Vincennes Indiana annually on New Year’s Eve. The event draws thousands of Hoosiers. A huge constructed watermelon is hoisted by a construction crane to 110 feet. At the stroke of midnight, 16 Knox County grown watermelons will be released from the bottom of the huge watermelon and fall to the splat form followed by fireworks. The drop is preceded by several different forms of entertainment.
