“Bird in a Tree”, an original large public sculpture, designed by noted artist, John Habela of Chesterton, Indiana and fabricated by Varied Products, a specialty steel producer of Portage, Indiana, is a fanciful depiction of a bright red cardinal, the Indiana state bird. Commissioned by Purdue University North Central, it is prominently displayed in La Porte County on S. U.S. Highway 421, Westville, where it graces the beautiful 269 acre campus among many other original works of 3-dimensional and 2-dimensional art. Group tours of PNC’s extensive art collection are available year-round, rain or shine, and may be scheduled by calling 219-785-5719.
