Indiana Bicentennial Celebration 2016

Amber Alert
Amber Alert - TEST

Legacy Projects > Indiana First US Flag Display Legacy Project Indiana First US Flag Display Legacy Project

The first United States Flag to depict a star in the blue field was the 1818 twenty-star flag. Title 4 of the United States Code requires respect for any iteration of an approved Flag of the United States. We will seek Presidential approval to display the 20 star US flag at 19 city and town halls plus the county buildings, beginning April 19, 2016, the date of the enabling act for Indiana to have a statehood constitutional convention. We hope to have a sign on display at each flagpole that will feature the Indiana Legacy Project approval and explaining the import of the flag. All flags will be retired on December 1, 2016 and then placed in appropriate permanent display in all the locations to commemorate the 200th anniversary.
