Legacy Projects > "Sand & Steel: Visions of Our Indiana Shore" Art Exhibition "Sand & Steel: Visions of Our Indiana Shore" Art Exhibition

South Shore Arts and the Brauer Museum of Art at Valparaiso University will celebrate the Indiana Bicentennial, the National Park Service Centennial and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s 50th anniversary with “Sand & Steel: Visions of Our Indiana Shore.” This exhibit will consist of artwork inspired by the beauty of the Indiana Dunes beginning in the early 20th century, the industry that followed, and the ecological balance struck between the two with the creation of the federally-protected park in 1966. “Sand & Steel” is a celebratory project, showcasing an important aspect of Indiana’s history. With an overall goal of engaging the public with historic artwork that is pertinent to our region and state, it will embrace the industrial and natural settings in which generations of area residents have labored and recreated, giving audiences art they can relate to.
