Legacy Projects > Anniversary Solargraph Anniversary Solargraph

solargraph 9

Capture the essence of time – the motion of the sun – with a long duration photograph of the suns path between the solstices. Make a pinhole camera with an aluminum can, photographic paper and duct tape. Mount the device outside and track the sun over several months between June & December in 2016. Take a peek at your resulting image and scan it digitally. Then proudly celebrate Indiana’s Bicentennial by sharing online your unique time-lapse of the sun in the Bicentennial year!

Q&A with Legacy Project Coordinator Chuck Bueter

What do you consider the key accomplishment of your Legacy Project?

  • The project has inspired a new round of solargraphs beyond 2016 as a way to support education about the sun and to promote solar energy in Indiana.

Describe a highlight or most memorable moment related to your Legacy Project.

  • When we gathered solargraph cans after the long exposure to look at the result--if any--each revealed image was greeted with anticipation. Without exception, each participant that hosted a solargraph showed delight in capturing the arcing sun from their site, regardless of the quality of the image.

Total number of volunteers who participated.

  • 30.
