Indianapolis – The 20th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Indiana Holiday Celebration, presented by the Indiana Holiday and Indiana Civil Rights Commissions, will be at the Indiana Statehouse Rotunda Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 12:00 pm. Tim King of Urban Prep Academies will deliver the keynote address and there will be remarks by Governor Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr.

“We are very excited about this year’s program and to have Tim King delivering the keynote address,” said Jamal Smith, Executive Director of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission. “Additionally, we are honored at the opportunity to recognize individuals and programs for their dedication to the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”

The program, which is open to the public for no charge, is expected to bring together more than 300 state employees, local and state government officials, human rights agencies and Indiana residents from across the state to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

A program theme centered on education will be highlighted by Tim King’s keynote address. Mr. King is the founder, president and CEO of Urban Prep Academies, the nation’s first all-male charter school. King was named ABC World News “Person of the Week” and People Magazine’s “Hero of the Year” in 2010. An astonishing 100% of Urban Prep Academies graduates—all African American males and mostly from low-income families—have been admitted to four-year colleges/universities.

The Freedom Award, The Chairman’s Award, The Passing the Torch Award and The Spirit of Justice Award will be presented at the program to individuals and programs that have worked towards achieving the dream of Dr. King. Additionally, the program will include music by the Golden Singers of Broad Ripple Magnet High School.
