Air Quality in Indiana

Air Quality in Indiana > Redesignation > Redesignations and Maintenance Plans Redesignations and Maintenance Plans

Areas that are designated nonattainment under a National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) are eligible to be redesignated to attainment once they meet a specified set of criteria, which includes monitoring attainment of the standard it was designated under. Once eligible, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) can petition the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) for the area to be redesignated to attainment and classified as maintenance.

IIDEM has prepared these Redesignation Petitions and Maintenance Plans for U.S. EPA review and consideration for these counties to be redesignated from nonattainment to attainment and classified as maintenance under the standards. The list is broken down by nonattainment area and provides additional information to support continued compliance with the standard(s).
