Air Quality in Indiana > Compliance > Open Burning Forms and Guidance Open Burning Forms and Guidance

Open burning in Indiana is generally prohibited and IDEM encourages alternatives to open burning, such as sale or reuse. There are exceptions that include fire training, prescribed burns used to facilitate the growth of desirable vegetation, the use of an air curtain destructor and the disposal of clean wood waste, although all require prior approval by IDEM. The following list provides additional information concerning open burning, Indiana’s statutes and rules and required forms.
