Field Inspection Programs

The Inspection Section ensures that Public Water Supplies (PWSs) are operated and maintained in such a way that they produce safe water and meet the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The section staff perform routine inspections at all PWSs. These inspections include a review of the source, treatment, distribution system, storage, monitoring programs, operator certification and the overall management and operation of the PWS. If deficiencies are found, corrective measures are required and staff performs follow up to check compliance. If a PWS detects a contaminant in their water, staff provides technical assistance to help correct the problem. The section is responsible for approving PWS well locations. The section also responds to citizen complaints that relate to a PWS.

Important Notice

Starting April 1, 2016, the Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR) will go into effect for all Public Water Supplies in the state.
