To equip offenders for successful reentry through meaningful work and career development while operating in a self-sustaining manner
PEN is a division of the Indiana Department of Correction. Indiana's prison industries manufacture goods and provide services using offender labor. PEN is a acronym for Prison Enterprises Network.
Offender's jobs are one key to safer, better maintained prisons because they reduce idleness - a major factor in violence and vandalism. A good day's work also provides positive focus and training for prisoners. Employment is a key to success-both in prison and after release. Job skills and work ethic developed in prison contribute to improved post-release results.
PEN sells office and lounge seating, park and patio furniture and equipment, a full line of cleaning products, laundry services, printing, offender clothing, and detention furniture. PEN provides Commissary services for all offenders in the Indiana Department of Correction. Offenders also work in a number of joint ventures with private industry.
