The PREF Propeller | Information for Employers
The Region 5 WorkOne office of Central Indiana, in its partnership with the Plainfield Re-Entry Educational Facility (PREF), has designated one of its staff members to work at PREF. Shelle Westrick, Re-Entry Job Developer is dedicated to assisting PREF residents with issues related to employment in their preparation for release.
The Department of Child Services, through its Child Support Bureau has partnered with the Plainfield Re-Entry Educational Facility (PREF) to assist residents with child support services. This partnership allows incarcerated men to learn the steps necessary to clear up child support issues and begin a step in the right direction upon release. Other services that are offered to residents at PREF are: checking outstanding warrants, schedules for repayment and payment, determining parent rights and establishing who the biological father is. These services are offered on a monthly basis to any eligible residents.
The ARAMARK Correctional Services IN2WORK Program was designed to provide inmates with food service training and practical work experience. Using the skills and knowledge gained through the program, residents of the Plainfield Re-Entry Educational Facility (PREF) have the opportunity to become more employable outside of the correctional environment. By once again partnering with ARAMARK, PREF has been able to offer its residents this elite opportunity. The experience gained through this program includes work in the facility Dining Hall, classes in Culinary Arts, as well as work in the New Beginnings Deli.
Through the United North East Community Development Corporation (UNECDC), the Plainfield Re-Entry Educational Facility (PREF) has been able to provide its residents with a pre-apprenticeship program focused on construction trades. The program is called Second Chance and is headed by Mr. Rudy Hightower, Program Director. PREF residents are able to begin this program while still incarcerated with a one week class in Life Skills and Job Readiness. After the resident is released, he is able to continue into a two week program focusing on On-the-Job Skills and from there is placed in the Apprenticeship Program. This partnership gives PREF residents the ability to begin a valuable pre-apprenticeship program while incarcerated with the opportunity to continue the training upon release.
