Bottom Dollars Screenings

Indiana Disability Rights is partnering to host FREE PUBLIC screenings of Bottom Dollars. Bottom Dollars is a documentary produced by Rooted in Rights and focuses on the practice of paying people with disabilities sub-minimum wage in sheltered work environments.

"By exposing this issue to Hoosiers, we hope to end the misconception that people with disabilities need to be protected and kept apart from society. A person with a disability is a person first and has the same rights to equality in the workplace as any other person in this country. 85% of workers in sheltered workshops make less than $2.00 an hour. Paying people less than minimum wage, and segregating them, not allowing them to work in integrated employment, reinforces the false stereotype that a person with a disability is less than a person without a disability. This practice is a relic of the past and needs to end," said IDR Executive Director Dawn Adams.
