Indiana Office of Technology's Chief Administrative Officer (former CFO) Kevin Wilson was named an honoree in Indianapolis Business Journal's CFO of the year!

The awards celebrate the financial professionals in Indiana for outstanding performance in their roles as financial stewards of corporations and not-for-profit/government organizations.

Kevin Wilson has worked for the State of Indiana for 16 years and been in his current position since 2019. His role is to develop strategies and financial models to ensure the office delivers cost-effective services to partner agencies.

"One of the challenges, and rewards, of my job is helping co-workers make the connection on how their actions and decisions affect our agency’s financial position," Wilson said.

IOT High School Robotics Competition debuts Feb. 17

The Indiana Office of Technology is hosting the first ever IOT Robotics Competition on the government center campus in February!

  • When does the event take place? The event will be held in the Indiana Government Center South on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Doors open at 8 a.m. for participants from all Indiana High Schools that have registered. Interested in getting a team registered?
  • Why is IOT hosting this? This is an opportunity for IOT to engage in our community in support of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, hoping to demonstrate the agency’s values and commitment to being an employer of choice in the Indiana tech industry.

Indiana hosts the most Robotics tournaments of any state or country in the world. Using Vex Robotics', platform, these tournaments are held year-round, usually at high schools across Indiana. Two teams go head-to-head and compete in a 12 by 12-foot square. TechPoint Foundation for Youth is helping IOT with the logistics of this new event on the Indiana Government Center campus, by providing judges, referees, and any consulting IOT might need.

Indiana Map reaches 1 million visits

The Indiana Geographic Information Office (IGIO) is thrilled to announce that in addition to being recognized with an Outstanding Project GovX award from the Center for Digital Government, the IndianaMap open data portal has reached 1 MILLION visits!

As you can see in the graphic above, the popularity of this fantastic resource has grown significantly in the past year.

The IndianaMap provides access to authoritative geospatial datasets and a platform to put them to immediate use. It is an organized effort of partners throughout Indiana, involving local, state, and federal agencies, private sector, and academia. The IGIO manages the IndianaMap on behalf of the Indiana’s geospatial community.

The IndianaMap leverages the latest technologies to ensure performance and cooperation with data owners, and provides a custom-developed viewer that allows users to create their own maps, query the data, and save maps for future use.

Indiana has been a leader in open geospatial data for decades. The first IndianaMap was launched in the late 1990's by the Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC), a non-profit organization focused on the effective application of geographic information in Indiana. Over time, it grew through various projects and grants and the Indiana Geological Water Survey (IGWS) maintained the site for many years.

In 2022, the IGIO, working closely with IGIC and the IGWS, announced that the IndianaMap would be transitioned to its office.

"Supporting the growth and availability of open geospatial data is one way we enable Hoosiers and those doing work in Indiana to make informed, data-driven decisions,” said Megan Compton, current Indiana Geographic Information Officer. “Giving new capabilities and support for the IndianaMap broadens its use and the impact of geospatial data across all sectors. The new platform will continue to positively impact Indiana, as the IndianaMap and our open data strategy has done for decades.”

The Indiana Office of Technology, together with Government Technology, hosted the Indiana Public Sector Cybersecurity Summit this month. Similar to the annual Digital Government Summit, this conference was a mix of panels and keynotes, but exclusively focused on cybersecurity.

Cybersecurity leaders from state and local government throughout Indiana attended the event, including two speakers who hyped up the audience: Bryce Austin, CISM and Dan Lohrmann!

Sessions included content about data privacy, security, user adoption, cybersecurity funding, crisis management and more.

More than 300 public sector staff registered to attend this initial cybersecurity conference. Mark your calendars – the next Public Sector Cybersecurity Summit is June 4!

Thank you to all who attended, moderated or spoke at this event!
