Dustin L. Houchin has been serving as Washington County Prosecutor since being first elected in 2006. During this time, he has aggressively prosecuted repeat offenders, increased drug prosecution, worked with Sheriff Combs to track and prosecute sex offenders, increased services to victims, and eliminated waste from the annual budget, trimming more than $75,000.

In addition to his efforts in the Prosecutor’s Office, Prosecutor Houchin has taken a leadership role in his community. He currently serves as the President of the Washington County Substance Abuse Council and Youth First of Washington County, serves on the Community Corrections Advisory Board, and is a deacon at the Mount Tabor Christian Church. He also takes time to speak to area students about the court system and the dangers of drugs and alcohol. In 2009, he was nominated by members of the community for the Citizen of the Year. In January, 2011, he was nominated by his fellows prosecutors and appointed to serve on the board of directors for the Indiana Prosecuting Attorney Council, where he takes an active role in shaping policy that impacts crime across our State.

Houchin brought a wide range of experience to the Prosecutor’s office. He operated a successful law practice in Salem, including work as a Washington County Public Defender where he gained valuable experience in criminal law. Prior to that, he worked as a legislative assistant in the Indiana House of Representatives assisting numerous State Representatives including now State Senator Brent Steele. He graduated law school from the IU School of Law in Indianapolis with a 3.4 GPA. He graduated with high distinction from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
