The goals of the Indiana CREP are to:
The overall goals of the Indiana CREP are to provide producers in the State an opportunity to voluntarily restore filter strips, riparian buffers and wetland areas, and plant trees through financial aid and technical assistance. These practice will assist in erosion control, sediment reduction, water retention, and nutrient uptake.
Specific goals of the Indiana CREP are to:
- Enroll 26,250 acres of eligible cropland and marginal pastureland, including frequently flooded lands, into CREP to establish buffer practices and wetlands;
- Protect at least 3,000 linear miles of watercourses by installing buffer practices;
- Reduce the amount of sediment, phosphorus, and nitrogen entering rivers and streams in the designated watersheds by 2,450 tons per year of sediment, 2,400 pounds per year of phosphorus, and 4,700 pounds per year of nitrogen;
- Increase the acres of wetlands in the watersheds for erosion control, sediment reduction, storm water retention and nutrient up-take;
- Enroll 15 percent of the eligible watershed's cropland subject to normal CRP acreage limits by county.
