STATE LAUNCHES IMMUNIZATION CAMPAIGN

The State Department of health has launched a statewide media campaign promoting immunizations to support Governor Daniel's initiative to give all children a healthy start through vaccinations. Click here to view the TV public service announcement.

The flu is a viral infection of the breathing tubes and lungs, but also has symptoms of sore throat, muscle aches, headache, and feeling generally ill. Anyone can become infected, but the elderly and young children, or anyone with certain health problems may become seriously ill or die from the flu or its complications. Influenza is spread from one person to another through sneezing or coughing. The virus is taken into the body through the nose or mouth. Even someone who does not yet feel sick, can pass the virus to others. Health officials urge people to get their flu shot. For more information, click here.

Cystic Fibrosis Month
May is Cystic Fibrosis Month

Clip art of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation logo Cystic Fibrosis was officially added to the panel of screened conditions in Indiana on January 1, 2008. By including cystic Fibrosis in the newborn screen, children with Cystic Fibrosis can potentially be diagnosed within the first month of life and receive treatment earlier, which will greatly improve their overall health. Approximately 300 Indiana children per year will have a positive Cystic Fibrosis newborn screen, with 40 of those children being diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis.
