School Height and Weight Collection Program Update February 2005-2007

2006-2007 Update

The purpose of this program is to collect and analyze the heights and weights of all Indiana School children in grades K-12 to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity and the pattern of overweight over time. Data collected will be used to create policies and programs that promote healthier environments for our Indiana children. The height and weight data collected will not be used for diagnosing any individual student with a weight problem.

The program will continue as a volunteer program during 2006-2007. Assistance will be provided to schools through local health departments, health clinics, and other organizations who express interest in volunteering. The Indiana Department of Education will provide additional details.
