The mission of Consumer Protection is to improve environmental health; assure safe foods, and accurate weights and measures; and to train and assist local health departments and local inspectors of weights and measures. Its 80 employees address radiation safety; food sanitation; weights and measures; vector control; housing sanitation; and providing technical assistance to local health departments. Most employees are specialists such as engineers, environmental scientists, food scientists, metrologists, soil scientists, mammography specialists, and weights and measures inspectors.
