Additional new label information is provided to help consumers differentiate the new products from the recalled products. CASTLEBERRY’S INTRODUCES ‘AMERICAN ORIGINALS’ FOODS WITH DISTINCTIVE LABELS AND NEW UPC CODES
AUGUSTA, Ga. – October 8, 2007 – Castleberry’s Food Company today announced the introduction of ‘American Originals™’ products to be sold under the Castleberry’s® and Austex® brands.
Consumers can expect to see the new American Originals™ line, which includes canned chili, stew, hot dog chili sauce and specialty meat items, in grocery stores this fall.
To help shoppers easily locate American Originals™ products on store shelves, Castleberry’s has created a contemporary label design featuring a shield bearing the American Originals™ moniker. The products will also contain UPC codes that are different from codes used on previous Castleberry’s® and Austex® products.
“We’ve given American Originals™ distinctive labeling and are marking the cans with new UPC codes to make sure the products are easily identifiable for consumers and retail store employees,” said Dave Melbourne, Sr. Vice President for Castleberry’s. “And we’ve improved our recipes, creating even tastier meals for the same great value families have come to expect from us.”
In addition, the company announced label design enhancements and new UPC codes for other company owned brands that will be reintroduced to the marketplace. Cattle Drive Gold™, Bunker Hill®, Triple Bar Ranch® and Black Rock Cattle Company® will feature newly designed labels and new UPC codes. The reintroduction of Bryan® and Morton House® products includes new UPC codes and an ‘Improved Recipe…Taste The Difference’ burst on the front of labels to assist with differentiation and communicate product upgrades.
In July, Castleberry’s announced a voluntary recall of numerous canned food brands and products. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) have approved the company’s plan for resuming production in the Castleberry’s Augusta, Ga., plant.
