2016 Mumps Outbreaks

The Indiana State Department of Health identified outbreaks of mumps at Indiana University in Bloomington, Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and Butler University in Indianapolis in early 2016. Some of these outbreaks have concluded after two incubation periods (50 days) without new cases. An additional 77 non-university-affiliated cases, with and without known links to university cases, have been identified across Indiana since February. Case counts will be updated each Friday. Please keep in mind that these counts are part of an ongoing investigation and counts may change pending new information.

Confirmed cases as of September 16, 2016:

  • Indiana University: 74 (Outbreak declared over on September 11, 2016)
  • Purdue: 59 (Outbreak declared over on August 20th, 2016)
  • IUPUI: 8 (Outbreak declared over on August 13th, 2016)
  • Butler University: 24 (Outbreak declared over on May 9th, 2016)
