Welcome

This section will include Web sites that contain valuable information in our fight against tobacco. We will be adding more resources as they become available.

The Indiana Tobacco Quitline

The Indiana Tobacco Quitline is a telephone-based cessation service designed to help all Indiana tobacco users.

The Indiana Tobacco Quitline assists:

  • Tobacco users, in any stage of readiness to quit
  • Pregnant smokers
  • Smokeless tobacco users
  • Former smokers who want relapse prevention support
  • Friends and relatives of tobacco users who want to offer support

Health Care Providers

Health care providers play a key role in reducing our state’s adult smoking rate.

They often have the opportunity to intervene by identifying tobacco use and encouraging cessation.

Tobacco users are 2.5 times more likely to quit if their health care provider advises them to quit. Providers have an established credibility with patients. Forty-nine percent want to quit because a health care provider told them to do so.

Employers

If you could have a safer, cleaner and healthier workplace, would you? If you could cut health care costs and reduce productivity losses to illness, would you? Making your business smoke-free saves lives and saves you money.

Indiana employers are impacted greatly by the burden of tobacco use. The average annual health care cost associated with tobacco use in Indiana is $2.2 billion; plus the average annual cost burden due to lost productivity related to smoking in Indiana is $2.6 billion.
