IURC APPROVES RATE INCREASE FOR CUSTOMERS OF SOUTH LAWRENCE UTILITIES

Today the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission approved a settlement agreement between the Indiana Office of the Utility Consumer Counselor and South Lawrence Utilities that will result in a two-phase rate increase.

In Cause No. 41989, the Commissioners approved the increases, which will allow South Lawrence Utilities to provide better service to its customers.    In Phase I the increase is just over 44%. Customers who use 5,000 gallons per month will pay $39.20, that’s up $12.05 from the current rate.  In Phase II, rates will increase just over 18%.  Customers will pay another $7.23, which means their bills will go up to $46.43.

Money raised from the increases will be used to pay for improvements to the system, which includes a new booster station, new-elevated storage tanks and the installation of new mains.

The Commissioners also have required that the company keep them apprised of its progress in a written report due on or before April 1, 2002.
