Medical Services

Premier medical care, just down the hall.

The Indiana Veterans' Home offers extensive on-site medical services for our residents. While on-site medical services are typically offered in most facilities to some degree, the Indiana Veterans' Home goes above and beyond to provide the best and most convenient care for our residents and many of our on-site medical service options are unique to our facility. Scroll down for an extensive list.

On-site medical services allow IVH to schedule resident appointments more easily with less wait time. Our medical staff and interdisciplinary team members have direct, regular contact with our nursing team and are more familiar with our residents because they see them regularly. Our doctors and nurses work closely together to provide a complete continuum of care and having regular face-to-face access with all care team members greatly enhances our medical service delivery.

In addition to scheduling and communication convenience, these on-site services are less stressful for our residents by requiring less disruption in their daily activities and reducing the amount of transportation required to attend appointments. Residents are accompanied to on-site appointments by floor staff without ever having to leave our inter-connected campus or having to brave the elements during inclement Indiana weather.  Our dementia and Alzheimer's residents are treated by doctors and specialists directly in the comfort and familiarity of their personal room, which minimizes any undue stress during treatment. In short, our extensive offering of on-site medical services provides a more cohesive continuum of care while saving time, money, and stress on our residents.

Even with all of these great services available here on campus, residents are free to choose to see other doctors or specialists. IVH provides transportation and staff support for scheduled off-site appointments as one of the many included services offered to our residents.

Medical Director

Full-Time Medical Service Staff

Registered Dietitians: IVH employs several Registered Dietitians.

Pharmacists: IVH employs three full-time pharmacists to staff our on-site pharmacy.

On-Site Pharmacy

Long-term care facilities seldom offer on-site pharmaceutical services but this is one of the many benefits our residents can take advantage of here at IVH. The IVH Pharmacy offers three full-time pharmacists and a full staff of pharmacy assistants to work directly with our care units and medical team. Our residents and their families are not responsible for locating and filling medications. We take care of that for our residents here on campus! Our pharmacy team members are also personally available to our residents and their designated representatives to help answer any medication questions and to discuss their needs.

Additional On-Site Services

In our Hill Clinic, the Indiana Veterans' Home houses the equipment and full-service operatories to provide on-site optometry, podiatry, and dentistry services with contracted providers. IVH also has an on-site radiograph (x-ray) machine to assist our medical and nursing staff with preventative care and diagnosis. To visit the Hill Clinic, IVH staff assists our residents with appointment scheduling and our wonderful volunteer department helps to transport residents to and from their appointments, if requested.

IVH also offers extensive physical and occupational therapy services. Whether our residents are here with us for a short-term rehab stay or are permanently residing with us, our therapy services wing is fully equipped and our therapy staff members are ready to help them reach their therapy goals. Having on-site therapy allows for more flexible scheduling and more frequent visits for residents to receive treatment. This can greatly shorten recovery and rehabilitation times for our residents.

Even with all of these on-site services, residents may elect to utilize personal doctors and medical specialists. To assist our residents and their families, IVH offers full transportation services to all of our comprehensive care residents. Our vehicle fleet includes two large buses and several accessible vans and IVH employs a full-time driver specifically for this purpose. Our routes include regular trips to the Indy VA hospital!

IVH is proud to offer such an extensive array of on-site medical services for our residents. The health and comfort of our veterans and their spouses are of utmost importance. If you would like to learn more about any of our medical services, please contact our Admissions Department today!
