January 29, 2007: FBI officially returns the 25th Indiana Infantry Regiment battle flag to General Stewart Goodwin, IWMC Executive Director.

This Civil War battle flag, carried by the 25th Indiana Infantry Regiment at the battles of Shiloh and Vicksburg, and on Sherman's March to the Sea, was officially returned to the State of Indiana, represented by Brigadier General J. Stewart Goodwin, Executive Director of the Indiana War Memorials, during a ceremony on January 29, 2007.  The flag has an estimated value of $50,000.

The 6-foot by 6-foot regimental flag was recovered by the FBI’s Art Crime Team, working with the US Department of Justice and the Indiana Attorney General.  The Art Crime Team, which includes 12 FBI Special Agents and 3 Special Trial Attorneys from the Department of Justice, have recovered over 850 items with a value exceeding $65 million since its inception in 2004.

The Indiana War Memorials plans to include the flag in its current restoration project.
