Note: Inns of Court are legal membership associations patterned after the Inn of Court system in Britain (see http://www.innsofcourt.org/). There are at least nine Inns of Court in Indiana; this Inn is named for New Albany's Sherman Minton, who was Indiana's only U.S. Supreme Court justice until Chief Justice John Roberts was confirmed in 2005.
Sherman Minton served in the United States Senate, on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, and was named to the U.S. Supreme Court by President Harry Truman in 1949. His Senate biography may be found at http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=M000800
