The Indiana Supreme Court, Division of State Court Administration, through its State Office of GAL/CASA, in collaboration with the Department of Child Services, will be presenting training for attorney GAL serving in child abuse and neglect and delinquency cases. As of July 1, 2012, attorneys serving as GAL in juvenile court must complete training on the topics of the identification and treatment of child abuse and neglect, and early childhood and adolescent development. Attorneys were previously asked to submit verification forms stating that they had read initial training materials (the CHINS Primer on the Identification and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect, and a section of "Caring for Kids, Useful Information and Hard-to-Find Facts about Child Health and Development, which related to Growth and Development) in July 2012.
The second portion of the training on the required topics that we are offering is a six hour long live training on Attorney GAL Representing Children. Attorneys who serve as GAL in juvenile court cases will receive 5 hours of CLE, and 1 hour of ethics free of charge for completing the entire training. Lunch will be provided. We have scheduled the trainings in four locations across the state. Please feel free to at the location most convenient to you. Trainings at all four sites are from 9:00 AM-4:15 PM, with registration starting at 8:30 AM. Please call 800-542-0813 with any questions.
