General Summary of GAL/CASA Volunteer Programs in Indiana in 2007

 

  • Children in 67 of Indiana’s 92 counties were served by organized volunteer GAL/CASA programs in 2007
  • 32 counties were managed court-based volunteer programs
  • 22 counties were managed by 501(c)(3) volunteer programs
  • 11 counties were managed by volunteer programs operated under umbrella agencies
  • 27 counties appointed either paid GAL attorneys, other paid GAL, or some other form of GAL
  • Volunteers spoke up for 16,653 children involved in CHINS cases, and 3,296 children involved in JT cases, for a total of 19,949 abused and neglected children in 2007
  • Programs were assigned to 7,322 new CHINS and 1,353 new JT cases in 2007
  • Volunteers donated a total of 508,973 hours in 2007. Had they been paid $50.00 per hour (the average rate paid to an attorney GAL), they would have donated a total of $25,448,650.00, or an average of $11,776.00 per volunteer
