Overview
The Judicial Technology and Automation Committee (JTAC) was established by the Indiana Supreme Court in 1999 with a primary goal of automating court processes and integrating court systems throughout Indiana. JTAC strives to use the most current technologies available, and the most prevalent tool we have today is the Internet.
JTAC’s highest priority is to provide Indiana trial courts with a statewide case management system (CMS). It will greatly rely on the Internet—for tasks such as data exchange, e-filing, and system updates. In addition, JTAC is already creating and launching applications that will work in tandem with the CMS, such as a statewide Protection Order Registry, Electronic Citation and Warning System, and a Court Statistics Reporting System.
Through extensive research, JTAC recognized that centralized, web-based software has many advantages over standalone software that must be managed and updated locally. Therefore, JTAC created a secure extranet website, dubbed INcite (Indiana Court Information Technology Extranet), to serve as a single environment for hosting all of the web-based applications that JTAC currently provides or will provide in the future.
What is an Extranet?
An extranet is typically a website that an organization uses to exchange information with an external, often geographically disconnected group of users. In this case, it is a website that the Supreme Court is providing to county- and city-level court and justice-related offices to share information with each other and with state-level offices.
The INcite extranet employs security features such as data encryption and authentication to ensure only authorized users can see and use data. Court users must be given access to the system by JTAC, and they may only access job-appropriate information. For example, a court staff person who has access to the INcite jury management system does not have access to do marriage license filings. In situations where the same personnel need to complete multiple tasks through INcite, they can be granted permission to access different applications.
What Does INcite Include?
- BMV SR16-filing Application.
- Protection Order Registry.
- Marriage License E-file System.
- Online Court Statistics Reporting. In 2008, a public website for online reporting of these statistics will be deployed
- Jury Pool Export. In 2007, counties will be able to download their Supreme Court approved jury lists or export a randomized jury pool through INcite. In 2008, this application will be deployed for statewide use.
- Jury Management System. This application will be deployed initially for use by select counties participating in a year-long pilot project
