Lincoln became interested in law because he was told as a young Hoosier “that every man would be a better and more useful citizen if he had a general knowledge of the law.” On the anniversary of Lincoln’s birth who is more appropriate to talk about Lincoln’s legacy than Hoosier lawyers?

Slavery and the Indiana Supreme Court: For and Against?
This is a Free CLE Event sponsored by the Indiana Supreme Court, with funding from the Cornelius O’Brien Lecture Series and the Indiana Commission for Continuing Legal Education.
This program features Professor Paul Finkelman – a nationally recognized speaker on topics related to slavery and the law. Professor Finkelman will discuss the complexity of the fight for and against slavery in Indiana and the United States in the 19th century.

"Three Generations of Imbeciles are Enough":
Reflections on 100 Years of Eugenics in Indiana
In 1907, Indiana adopted the first eugenical sterilization law in the world, paving the way for similar laws in more than thirty other states and nearly a dozen countries around the world. This CLE course will involve a lawyer, a bioethicist and a physician who will discuss the still controversial topic of involuntary sterilization in historical context and also reflect on how the new insights from the Human Genome project have affected it.

The History of Indiana Law
This CLE program features a panel of contributors from the just released The History of Indiana Law. The book is a collection of 15 essays covering a wide range of topics including: Indiana 's constitutional tradition, civil liberties, race relations, women's rights, family law, welfare and the poor, education, crime and punishment, juvenile justice, the role of the courts and judiciary, and landmark cases.

past three years by volunteering their time and legal expertise to answer
questions by phone or through face-to-face consultation. The program is
now seeking additional volunteers for the 2006 event.
