Hours of Operation (all times Eastern)

The Indiana State Library is open:

 M, Tu, W & F:    8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  
 Th:   8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.*
 Sat:  8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

* Please note, the Manuscripts and Rare Books Collection is open Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The State Library will close at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 13th (join the State Library @ the State Fair for Hoosier Heritage Day!) and Thursday, December 31st (New Year's Eve).

The Indiana State Library is closed on Sundays, as well as for all state and federal holidays.

In 2009, the Indiana State Library will be closed on the following state and federal holidays:

Thursday, January 1 Monday, October 12
Monday, January 19 Wednesday, November 11
Friday, April 10  Thursday, November 26
Monday, May 25 Friday, November 27
Friday, July 3 Thursday, December 24
Monday, September 7 Friday, December 25

In 2009, the Indiana State Library will be closed on the following Saturdays:

Parking Information

Commercial parking within walking distance is available in many downtown garages. Metered parking is available on most downtown streets, including Ohio St. and Senate Ave. Patrons do not have to feed the parking meters on Saturdays.

Coming from the North

Take I-65 South and exit at the Martin Luther King Jr. Street/West Street exit (exit 114). Continue south on West Street for about three-quarters of a mile. Turn left on Ohio Street. There is metered parking available on both sides of Ohio Street (not available after 3 p.m. on the north side of the street, Monday-Friday).

Coming from the South

Take I-65 North, and then change to I-70 West. Go west for just under one mile, and exit at West Street (exit 79A). Turn right onto West Street/Missouri Street and continue north for about a mile. Turn right onto Ohio Street. There is metered parking available on both sides of Ohio Street (not available after 3 p.m. on the north side of the street, Monday-Friday).

Coming from the East

Take I-70 West, and exit at West Street (exit 79A). Turn right onto West Street/Missouri Street and continue north for about a mile. Turn right onto Ohio Street. There is metered parking available on both sides of Ohio Street (not available after 3 p.m. on the north side of the street, Monday-Friday).

Coming from the West

Take I-70 East to the West Street exit (exit 79A). Make the first possible left (north) onto West Street/Missouri Street and go about a mile. Turn right onto Ohio Street. There is metered parking available on both sides of Ohio Street (not available after 3 p.m. on the north side of the street, Monday-Friday).

Nearby Hotels and Places to Eat

Visitors to the Indiana State Library who need to find a place to stay or a restaurant should visit the Indianapolis Downtown Web site, or check the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association Web Site.

For patrons who are spending the day at the Indiana State Library, there are two cafeterias within the State Government Complex within a few minutes of the State Library. Across the street from the Indiana State Library, the Indiana Historical Society has a cafe.
