Explore the Indiana State Library and marvel at its stunning architecture and impressive collections with our free tours. Whether you’re seeking bibliographic instruction or wish to delve into specific topics, we have you covered. Customized group tours are also available upon request.

  • Architectural and Behind-the-Scenes Tour: Learn about the many architectural features of the building, including its Neoclassical Revival style with Art Deco influences. 60-90 minutes.
  • Family History Tour: This orientation tour provides an in-depth look at the library’s genealogical holdings, perfect for genealogists and family historians. You can request a tour for as few as two people or for a larger group. 30 minutes.
  • Flexible Research Orientation Tour: Go behind the scenes to explore various collections and understand how to navigate the library’s resources. 60-90 minutes.
  • "Pursuit of Pride" Children's Tour: Tour the Indiana State Library building and learn about the many services the library provides. 30 minutes.

Construction of a new Indiana State Archives building on Ohio Street across from the State Library will begin in August 2023.  Construction will last approximately 2.5 years and will affect street parking.  During this time, please park in the Senate Avenue parking garage directly across from the library and bring your ticket in for validation.
