Special Guide to 1940 US Census for Family History Researchers
The 1940 US Census was released to the public by the National Archives on April 2, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. The Indiana State Library's Genealogy Collection created a special guide for family history researchers on methods and best practices on How to Find Someone in the 1940 Census (before it is indexed).
Age Search Service from the U.S. Census Bureau Searches of the 1910-2000 population census which produces a transcript that may contain: age, sex, race, state, or county of birth, and relationship to the head of the household. This service is provided for the following reasons: evidence to qualify for social security and other retirement benefits, making passport applications, prove relationship in settling estates, in genealogy research, etc., or to satisfy other situations where a birth or other certificate may be needed but is not available.
