2013 is Renewal Year for Grandfathered Certified Public Librarians
We are preparing for a very big year for public librarian certification. Over 2,000 library professionals were grandfathered in 2008 and these licenses are due for renewal in the 3rd quarter of 2013 (between 7/1 and 9/30 this year). These are your first official 2013 reminders of two points:
More information is forthcoming on establishing online renewals through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency website. Individuals that meet current certification requirements for licensure may be eligible to renew prior to the 3rd quarter of this year. The advantage to early renewal (for those who are eligible) is you can start your 5-year LEU cycle over again that much sooner. Individuals who are retaining their grandfathered status must wait until the July 1–September 30 window to renew. Please contact Emily Schaber at 317-234-6217 or emschaber@library.in.gov for more information about LEUs and the renewal process. You can also find more information via the Public Librarian Certification homepage. PLA, IMLS Seeks Input on Summer Reading Programs
PLA has received over 1,000 responses to the summer reading survey! The PLA team and IMLS thank you for getting the word out to the public libraries in your state via email and newsletters. In case anyone missed the original message, we want you to know that there is still time to participate….January 31, 2013 is the deadline. The survey, aimed at identifying the different types of summer reading programs available in public libraries across the country, is being managed by PLA and promises to provide a wealth of new information about the characteristics of summer reading programs, the type of evaluative information that is gathered, and the resources needed to improve program efficacy. Information about the effort along with a link to the survey instrument can be found at: http://summerreading.pla.org/. Again, we appreciate your effort in encouraging participation throughout your state. Book Club Resources Offer Something for Every Type of Patron
