Celebrate Preservation Week with LYRASIS, ALA The ALA's second annual Preservation Week is April 24 through 30 and is a time to recognize the critical role libraries play in preservation. This is a great opportunity for all libraries to get involved and connect with other libraries and cultural heritage institutions who are devoted to preserving our collections for generations to come. Last year, over 65 events took place nationwide. You can view the 2010 Preservation Week Events in the U.S. in Google Maps. The ALA's Association for Library Collections & Technical Services has great event-planning toolkits and preservation resources available online and also offers these easy tips to get involved:
LYRASIS also supports your work to ensure the long-term viability and accessibility of your collections by hosting Advocate for Your Collections in honor of Preservation Week 2011. This free lunch and learn webinar will highlight the ways we can advocate for the future care of our collections, as well as discuss the existing preservation efforts you may already have underway. Click here to join LYRASIS Digital & Preservation Services on April 27 at 12:00 p.m. (EDT) for this free one-hour webinar. Target Grants Support Early Childhood Reading Every year, Target provides grants to K-12 schools , libraries and other nonprofit organizations that provide reading and arts programs for children and youth. Target Early Childhood Reading Grants are awarded to support programs such as after-school reading events and weekend book clubs. Grants are intended to support programs that help foster a love of reading and encourage children to read with their families. Target Arts and Culture in Schools Grants are intended to enhance classroom curricula by bringing music, dance, drama, and visual arts programs into the classroom. These grants are designed to help bring performers to schools so children can experience the arts and learn new forms of self-expression. Grants in both funding categories will be for $2,000 each. Eligible applicants are nonprofit organizations, schools, libraries, and public agencies. Visit the Target website for complete program guidelines and to submit an online application. Indiana Humanities Debuts New Brand, Logo Indiana Humanities has officially dropped the word “council” from its name and adopted a new identity and logo to better reflect the organization’s mission and its role in the statewide community. The organization recently debuted its new brand and logo, which translates throughout their updated website. |
Tomorrow is Final Chance to Join Gateway Trainers Project Beginning this summer all local units of government will be required to submit their budgets online using the Indiana Gateway for Local Government Units, a web-based data reporting system. The Indiana State Library and the DLGF are partnering to offer librarians the opportunity to become Gateway Trainers and to provide leaders in their local communities with this valuable service. If your library is interested in being a Gateway Trainer, contact Wendy Knapp to register for the program webinar.
