ECCR Toolkits Coming Soon to Your Library Beginning next week, the State Library will begin shipping the Every Child Ready to Read® @ your library® 2nd Edition Toolkit to all Indiana public libraries and branches. This will be followed by a series of statewide train-the-trainer workshops throughout the fall, including:
The ECRR 2nd Edition provides a new curriculum and materials to continue the effort of the original ECRR, supporting parents and caregivers with the early literacy development of their children, birth to age five. To learn more about the ECRR 2nd Edition, visit the updated and redesigned Every Child Ready to Read® website. The ECRR fall workshops are free and registration is available via the WebJunction Indiana online calendar. The Indiana ECRR initiative is funded by a Library Services & Technology Act grant. eBook Options Discussed in 3rd Entry of Article Series The growing popularity of Patron Driven Acquisitions (PDA) option for Ebook selection and purchase is attractive for many reasons, but unless the purchasing agreement is structured so that per title costs are substantially lower through PDA, then budget dollars will not stretch any farther than if a library staff member selected the same or similar set of titles for purchase. Thus, the objective of acquiring more content for the same amount of money spent is not met. PDA or any other title-by-title approach, when executed by a single library, may prove difficult in substantially lowering the cost per title. eBook collections bought by individual libraries or through group shared collections have been most successful in lowering per title costs and in expanding title access and use...(read the entire article) LYRASIS offers options for both purchasing and leasing eBooks.
