Biographical Note:

Arcada Balz, born ca. 1880, was active in the Indiana Federation of Women’s Clubs, where she served as president (1935 – 1937). Arcada was also president of the New Harmony Memorial Commission (1939 – 1950s). Aside from her organizational work, Mrs. Balz was involved in politics. She was elected as a Republican to the Indiana State Senate, where she served from 1943 to 1950. Arcada Balz was married to Frederick C. Balz, owner of the Star Millinery Company in Indianapolis, IN. Arcada Balz died in 1973.

Scope and Content Note:

The collection consists of Balz’s correspondence, notes, articles, and other materials relating to the following organizations: the Indiana Federation of Women’s Cubs, New Harmony Memorial Commission, and the Fauntleroy House (1934 – 1964). The collection also contains papers relating to her work in the Indiana State Senate, family correspondence, and her genealogical research. There is also a paper on the Edworthalean Society, a woman’s club in Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana.
