Biographical Note:

Mary Aborn was born in Indiana in 1835.  She was married to physician, Dr. Orin Aborn (1826-1885) and was a writer of Warren County, IN history.  After the death of her husband, she moved to Franklin County, Arkansas, where she died in 1927.

Scope and Content Note:

The largest part of the collection consists of papers of Ebenezer F. Lucas (1807-1871), a businessman in Williamsport and State Line City, Warren County; clerk, Warren County Circuit Court (1838); Warren County treasurer (1842); engineer ad superintendent, Wabash and Erie Canal (1842-1846); assistant marshal to aid in taking the 8th U.S. Census (1860).  Lucas’s papers include his correspondence regarding the operation of the Wabash and Erie Canal; correspondence, surveys, and legal documents relating to his business and land interests in Warren County; and papers relating to the 1860 census.  The collection also includes Aborn’s correspondence and writings in relation to early Warren County history and the removal of Indians from Indiana; two scrapbooks of clippings on Warren County history from the 1880s, pasted in on Dr. Aborn’s account books from the 1850s and 1870s; and records of the treasurer for school district #1 in [Warren County] (1834).

Correspondents include Henry W. Ellsworth, Elisha English, Allen Hamilton, Edward A. Hannegan, Joseph E. McDonald, Daniel Mace, David Turpie, James Whitcomb and William Wesley Woolen. 

Collection B82 consists of an oversized folder, containing several land grants.  Recipients of these grants were Abigail Stufflebeam, John Stufflebeam, Michael Stufflebeam and David Glenn.  All were signed for President Andrew Jackson by his secretary.
