The Indianapolis Department of Waterworks is seeking to raise its water utility rates and charges in Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) Cause No. 43645.

On June 30, 2009, the IURC issued an interim order granting an emergency rate increase on an interim basis, while establishing a procedural schedule for the case’s general phase in which permanent rates will be determined.

The City filed testimony and exhibits in the rate case’s general, permanent phase on September 30, 2009.

The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) is scheduled to file testimony and exhibits on February 16, 2010.

An IURC public field hearing in this case will be held in early 2010 with the date, time and location to be determined.

The OUCC invites written consumer comments in this case. Written comments are accepted via mail, fax and e-mail, and should include the consumer’s name, mailing address, and a reference to “IURC Cause No. 43645.”

Only the city’s water rates and charges are at issue in this case. Municipal sewer utilities are exempt from IURC jurisdiction under Indiana law.
