LICENSE CERTIFICATION/VERIFICATION: Effective January 21, 2009, the State of Indiana is changing the method it uses to verify licensure for Indiana licensees. The new procedure will allow anyone to request a digitally certified certification letter and license status information that can be forward to any licensing board or individual. What they will receive is a pdf file with two pages - the letter and the status page. Both will have a US Postal mark to verify authenticity as of the date it shows. This process is admissible in all courts. There will also be a web link in the letter that allows you to verify that the file is authentic, digitally signed, and has not been modified. Paper certifications will no longer be provided. To use the digital certification function, please click on "License Express" at the top left corner of this page.
We will no longer be printing temporary permits. This does not change the license posting requirement however. The applicant applying for a temporary permit will be required to go to our website at http://www.pla.in.gov/ to utilize our License Express search and verify feature to print their temporary permit license information to post at their work station in the salon.
We will no longer be printing licenses for individuals, barber shops, and schools as a result of a new license application or a renewal application. This does not change the license posting requirement where applicable. The licensee will be required to go to our website at http://www.pla.in.gov/ to utilize our Services.IN.gov License Express link to order a license to be mailed to you for a fee or to print a free license. There is a charge of $10.00 plus processing fees if you choose the license that is mailed. These fees are not paid to the agency, rather paid to the Department of Administration for the service. For the free license, go through the ordering process, placing "1" in the quantity box and add to the shopping cart. After clicking on "Next Step", the free license will appear on your computer to be printed.
