Memorial Holiday Restrictions for Southwestern Indiana

Drivers urged to exercise caution in heavy Memorial Day traffic

VINCENNES, Ind. -- Memorial Day marks the start of the summer season and a busy travel time on Indiana highways and interstates. The Indiana Department of Transportation is (INDOT) reminds motorists to drive safely and plan for potential heavy traffic during the upcoming holiday weekend.

From noon Friday, May 22 until sunrise Tuesday, May 26, all maintenance activities and most construction projects will halt work to increase roadway safety in work zones. Work zones that are already set up will remain intact, but work will stop to improve traffic flow.

"We will do everything we can to keep motorists moving smoothly through southwestern Indiana," said acting INDOT Vincennes District Deputy Commissioner Greg Ellis. "Hoosiers and our out-of-state visitors can help us have a safe holiday travel season by always wearing a seatbelt, following posted speed limits and watching out for changing road conditions."

Motorists can also log on to TrafficWise, INDOT's online system that provides live camera views of traffic conditions in the Indianapolis and Northwest Indiana metro areas. TrafficWise allows motorists to get online and check out traffic conditions on freeways before they leave their home. Go to www.in.gov/dot and click on the TrafficWise logo.
