GRANGER, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will hold a public hearing May 28 about the proposed Major Moves added travel lanes project on State Road 23 (S.R. 23) from Brick Road to Adams Road in Granger. The public hearing will begin at 6 p.m. (Eastern time) Thursday, May 28, in the Northpoint Elementary School cafeteria at 50800 Cherry Road in Granger. The purpose is to offer all interested persons an opportunity to comment on current design plans for the project.

The project is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2011. Approximately 1.48 miles in length, it's proposed to provide two travel lanes in each direction with a two-way left turn lane in the middle. Also proposed are dedicated left and right turn lanes at major intersections, curb and gutter inlets for storm water drainage and sidewalk on the south side of S.R. 23.

The tentative timetables for right-of-way acquisition and construction will be discussed during the formal presentation May 28. Public statements for the record will be taken after the presentation. Individuals interested in participating in the public statement session may sign the speakers' schedule prior to the presentation. All comments collected before, during and for a period of two weeks after the hearing will be evaluated and addressed in the final design study report. Before and after the formal presentation, the plans will be available for anyone interested in talking to the engineers about the project. Conversations will not be part of the official record.
