RoyalCenter - This morning, at approximately 9:00 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and Cass County Sheriff's Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 35 south of County Road 575 North, which injured three Logansport IN, residents.
Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Randy Pryor revealed that a 1988 International tractor trailer driven by Timothy R. Allen, 50, Star City, IN, was traveling southbound on U.S. 35. The semi slowed for a mowing crew and was hit in the trailer by a southbound 1993 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Joshua Delaplane, 27, Logansport, IN. The impact caused the Pontiac to travel off the westside of U.S. 35, coming to rest in a flooded field. The semi trailer was loaded with hogs in route to Tyson Foods in Logansport, IN.
Delaplane was transported by ambulance to Logansport Memorial Hospital with a complaint of chest pain. Joseph Steele, 24, Logansport, IN, a passenger in the Pontiac, was initially transported by ambulance to Logansport Memorial Hospital with internal injuries. He was later transported to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN. A second passenger in the Pontiac, Lindsey Annis, 22, Logansport, IN, was transported by ambulance to Logansport Memorial Hospital with several lacerations and a possible shoulder injury. The semi driver, Allen, refused medical treatment at the scene.
This crash is still under investigation.
Motorists are reminded that the summer driving season means we all have to share the road with mowing crews, construction zone workers, and farmers operating equipment on Indiana roads. All motorists should constantly monitor the road conditions and reduce their speed when encountering roadside workers. Drive defensively and do not use cell phones or utilize other electronic devices while a vehicle is in motion.
Master Trooper Pryor was assisted at the crash scene by the Royal Center Fire Department, the Logansport Fire Department, and Cass County EMS.
