Indiana State Police Asking for Your Help - UPDATE

Indianapolis - Late last night, at approximately 11:23 p.m., Indiana State Police responded to a possible hit and run of a pedestrian on the ramp from westbound I-70 to Holt Road (Exit 77).

Preliminary investigation revealed on May 30, 2009, at approximately 11:23 p.m., Indiana State Police received information of a man lying in the roadway on the Holt Road exit ramp (exit 77) from I-70 westbound.  Upon arrival, Troopers found paramedics and officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department dealing with the victim, a black male, in his late 20's to early 30's.  Trooper Ben Cook was informed the man was found lying in the roadway when paramedics and IMPD Officers arrived.  Trooper Cook stated the man was an apparent victim of a hit and run or that he had possibly fallen out of a moving vehicle.  The victim was conscious, however, was unable to communicate to officers what had happened.  The victim had major head trauma to the left side of his head and was transported by ambulance to Wishard Hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries.

*UPDATE*  The victim in this incident has been identified as Andre Kilbert, 30, Indianapolis, IN.  Mr. Kilbert's current condition has not changed.  Doctors now believe Mr. Kilbert was not a victim of a hit and run.  They believe he suffered blunt force trauma to his head by being hit with a foreign object.  They believe after the injury occurred he was dumped off at the location where he was discovered.  Once positive identification of Mr. Kilbert had been made, it was discovered he had an active warrant through Marion County for resisting law enforcement.  Mr. Kilbert was also found to be in possession of cocaine at the time of the incident.  Mr. Kilbert was charged for his offenses and will be transported to the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center once released from Wishard.

The Indiana State Police are continuing to investigate this crime and are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 1-800-582-8440 for Trooper Ben Cook.

Andre Kilbert, 30, Indianapolis, IN

            1.  Wanted on Warrant (Resisting Law Enforcement) - Class A Misdemeanor
