Plainfield-Saturday evening, June 20th, at 6:12 p.m., Indiana State Police responded to a two vehicle crash on I-70 at the 66 mile marker (S.R. 267) that killed a Putnam County man.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Luke S. Lovins, 21, of Cloverdale, was driving his 2005 Chevrolet Malibu with four passengers east bound on I-70 at the 66 mile marker. Alfredo Luviano Martinez, 31, of St. Louis, Missouri, was driving his 2000 Ford pickup west bound on I-70 at the 66 mile marker and for an unknown reason crossed the median and struck Lovins vehicle head-on. The Lovins vehicle came to rest on the passenger side facing west in the grass south off the east bound lanes.
Lovins, who was wearing a seatbelt, was unable to survive the violent crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by Hendricks County Coroner Justin Newman. Martinez was transported to Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Passengers in the Lovins vehicle, Debora S. Ford, 50, of Coatsville, Thomas F. Ford, 53, of Coatsville, and Chandler B. Ford, 13, were transported by ambulance and Erin C. Ford, 20, of Coatsville was transported by Dove Flight helicopter to Methodist Hospital. All passengers were reported to be in critical condition.
