Police Action Shooting in Jennings County

On Friday evening June 19th at approximately 10:52 PM, Officers from the North Vernon City Police Department and Deputies from the Jennings County Sheriff's Department responded to a fight call in an alley located in the rear of 12 ½ North Fifth Street in North Vernon. When officers arrived at the scene, Jacob Miller, 29, of Six North Fifth Street Apartment B, North Vernon, one of the alleged fighters in the alley, ran into his apartment. As officers approached the apartment they heard what appeared to them to be multiple gunshots. At least one officer fired his duty weapon and officers then set up a perimeter around the apartment and called for assistance. The North Vernon City Police Department S.W.A.T. Team arrived and was able to talk Jacob Miller out of the apartment.

Jacob Miller was detained and transported to the St. Vincent Medical Center in North Vernon to receive treatment for

non-life threatening  injuries consistent with a gunshot wound/wounds to his right leg.

Both agencies whom had officers involved in the incident, the North Vernon City Police Department and the Jennings County Sheriff's Department requested that detectives from the Indiana State Police Post at Seymour take the lead in this investigation.

At this time it has not been determined how many officers fired their duty weapons or how many shots were fired. It has also not been determined if any of the shots fired by the police was the actual shot/shots that caused Jacob Miller's injuries.

The Indiana State Police will not release the names of the officers involved in this police action shooting investigation. Those names must be retrieved from the officer's respective agencies. No police officers were injured in this incident.
