INDIANAPOLIS - Today, Indiana Senate Republicans introduced their version of the state budget as well as a "continuing resolution", a bill that allows the governor to keep state government funded at existing levels even if a budget is not adopted by July 1. Lt. Governor Becky Skillman released the following statement on the two proposals:
"Senate Republicans have produced a responsible budget. They made changes to the governor's proposed budget, but they stayed within the parameters we set forth: no gimmicks, no tax increase, and no squandering the state surplus.
"I also applaud the continuing resolution - a back-up plan that will keep state government operating even in the worst-case scenario. We've said over and over that a government shutdown is unacceptable. But if that's what Speaker Bauer is planning, then this back-up plan should prevent that."
